35 minutes at the post office...

Has to do with the quality of the members, Janel!

I think it is because Tony sets on this page and quietly removes posts.

Perestan' bit dabayobom!
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

That make you feel more at home Tony?

Wow. You guys are good. I just read through this thread, and I have to say, I'm impressed!.
like jsneddon says. jumper cables won't help until it goes rrrr rrrrr rrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrraaawwwrrrr rrrrrrraaawwwrrr click click click click.(but trust me I've been to the point of "try anything" so I don't blame you)
J.b. thats what WD40 is good for. (WD= water displacement) a good shot of that under the dizzy cap and you're on your way home.
My friends mom had a caravan that was famous for sputtering to a stop in any kind of damp weather. She'd be under the hood, on the side of the road, when someone would stop to help, about the time she was popping the freshly WD40ed cap back on and getting back on her way.

If I did, jlaird, it'd show "post deleted" & my name..hehehehe

Jim,

Sorry bout the confusion – I was under the impression that the battery was ran down trying to re-start the engine (w/the damp dizzy it seemed logical) and that is why she was trying to push start Emma. So after I asked my first questions about wheatear or not it was turning over or not – so I naturally assumed her battery was dead & suggested that she try to jump start it rather than push - much easier and gives the same results.

Point is she found the problem and luckily it is a relatively simple fix.

good point too- I didn't think about that. didn't mean any thing against you guys /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Somehow lately I've been lucky enough to _not_ kill the battery. But once it doesn't start I don't keep grinding it. If mine was gonna start it was gonna start within 15 seconds or so or there's definately a problem. Then you get busy with Air, Fuel, Spark. (and Air is a freebee /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

Jaybird - don't you love it when two seemingly unrelated problems turn out to be the same thing? One less thing to fix!

Now you know about the WD40 trick too - stick a can in your boot. Had a Dodge Dart that did the same thing all the time - dang dizzy sits BELOW the slant of the slant 6...

Big Puddle! - weeeeeeeeeeeeeh..cough..cough..cough.........curse, push, pop cap, spray....rrrrr rrrr rrrrr click click click....jiggle shifter on the column.... rrrr rrr rrrr varooom!

Of course one could avoid puddles... but where's the fun in that?

Amazingly, this thread reached a successful ending without all the bickering, backstabing, & name calling that went along with it on the other BBS!

Don't worry. I just sent all of the people involved in this fix an email demeaning their abilities and telling them what they really should have done (not help her and make fun of her for being a lowly girl)... But it's OK, I sent it anonymously...

uh...

ooops.

(and yes - you MG freaks have drug me into your twisted world over there now too - it's better than reality TV) I find myself jonesing for the next Keenan post.

Why did these idiots put the heater valve above the distributor in the first place? That is like puting the fuel line above the manifold. Oh, they did that too didn't they.

He he /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif Gee - never heard that question before? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Does anyone still sell the rubber boots for the coil and distributor cap? A stopgap measure, I know, but better than being stuck in the dark.

i would be willing to bet one from a 'yota or nissan would fit pretty well, might be available at your local yard.

I don't know guys, but if the fuel pump stops pumping and she doesn't hear it and she won't start, but later hears the fuel pump run and she starts, I think she may have a bad fuel pump or connections. The first thing I would check would be the ground wire to the fuel pump.

I can replace a fuel pump for what, $40?

What we did was put the heater valve from Binabox in Emma. I'll get a new one when we start assembling Bina. We'll see what happens. I have errands to run today, is going to be 60 degrees - top down weather! We'll see if it is still leaking there.

The same problem as Jaybird's was the reason I got such a deal on my first MGB over here, the heater valve had soaked the distributor (it was an Arizona car, so the heater had never been on before) and the car quit on the owner in heavy traffic. She swore that she would never drive the car again...........and she didn't, so hubby sold it, to me, for about what he had in the paint job alone! I'm glad that Janel has more "intestinal fortitude" than she did. If you stick with it and sort the problem out it usually turns out right.

And the reason why there's no bickering or backstabbing? Friends don't do that to each other, and that's just the atmosphere that has been fostered on this board from day one.

ARGH!

Ratzenfratzen #(*@!$*&(*#$*(#@&%

I "lost" the bottom clip to the distributor cap when I went to put it on. Came off in my hand, fell, *POOF!*

Re: ARGH!

Probably laying right on top of the starter!
