3000 oil leak from side of engine

Yes TH, the BJ8 will weep oil between the head and block a bit if overheated,or under torqued. Further, during head rebuild if the head stud threads are not cleaned up with a bottoming tap and cleaned out throughly using compressed air prior to torqing in place they may leak. The problem Greg has shown does not exist in late BJ8 engines. When the design change occured I do not know. If the leakage in yours is minimal I would just let the engine alone---Keoke

Thanks Greg. I was way off. That helped. I have a very early Phase 1 (Nov 63). What modifications did they make? The leak is very small so I'll live with it.

Hi TH, Those studs were changed to fully bottoming type. My 1966's do not have them, feel up under yours and see if the stud holes are present.---Keoke

Yes TH, that is the usualplace a Bj will seep. Gotta go on the defensive now. That Greg fellow musta done somthing wrong!.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

A good defense is a strong offense! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I may have done sumpin wrong, but I’ll blame it on the aluminum head expanding with heat. Yeah, that’s it.

Yes I thought you had gotten on of those back savers too and that just may be the problem Greg.---Keoke
