Think I saw that car on a commercial for something
 
It has been in a recent Volvo commercial. His story surfaces every now and then. He must have spent a fortune over the years in rust repair, or he is extremely meticulous about keeping it clean and undercoated. It's rare for a N.Y. vehicle to last over 20 years even well maintained. Very cool story. I'd love to see the records of what all he's had done to it.
 
It's a well known story and always amazes me... I don't think anyone will ever break his record mileage... :hammer:

It'll probably be like the hammer that will last forever as long as you keep replacing the handles and heads.
 
I agree - just HOW many stories have you heard about cars in the Midwest/East
being destroyed by rust?
I can't believe that a New York car could be driven that many miles,& still survive
in that condition.
If this was a Southern California car,I might be able to beleive the story.

When the wife was working as a Real Estate broker, she knew a couple who had a Mercedes with over 1 million miles on it. I haven't a clue what year it was, but I do know it was a diesel. They supposedly bought the car new. Until this Volvo 1800 appeared, that was the highest mileage car I ever heard of. PJ

I forgot to ad, the P-1800 has always been my favorite Volvo. Real classy!
 
There was an article about the car and the guy, I think in Hemmings Sports and Exotic, maybe 2-3 years ago. The guy went into some detail about the car and how he maintains it. Doesn't let anyone else drive it, claims to know various tricks to minimizing wear on parts like engine and clutch and tranny. I am sure he is also careful to clean off dirt and rust from the undercarriage to minimize rust issues, interesting stuff.

300,000 maybe but 3 million, I doubt it!

It's legit - and, closer to 64k per year, more than attainable, especially if you like to drive and are aware it is a record attempt
