3.9 Diff/half shaft/spline question.

I have just rebuilt a 3.9 diff to go in my MGA, 4 new bearings, new pinion seal.

I think the car has 10 spline half shafts, its a 1500.

The diff I have rebuilt has got 25 or 26 spline gears in the middle, I've yet ot count but its certainly not 10.

A second hand pair of half shafts is going to cost me some beer tokens.

Is there any reason why I cant take the planet gears with the 10 spline holes out of the diff in the car and fit them into the 3.9 diff, saving me from having to buy another pair of half shafts?

I have heard on other boards that this is the way to do it.

That's exactly what you need to do. Rotate them out, and rotate the new ones in. Make sure they are in good order of course, so you don't wear out your nice rebuilt diff faster than normal!
