Spitfire 25K Spit, could be worth it.

I'd rather buy a well used one for a couple of thousand, so I could drive the doors off it. In my opinion It's no fun owning a car that you can't drive.
It is a really nice car though.

I'm a huge, long time Spitfire fan, but I couldn't justify $25,000 for a Spitfire, no matter what the time warp condition. It's also in Leyland's Arctic White, possibly the ugliest white outside of General Motors.

Nope, sorry. I don't think any Spitfire is worth $25,000. But, that dealer could prove me wrong.

Problem with that car is, even if it has been stored in a perfect environment it will need restoration. It hasn't been driven (35 miles in 25 years). All of the rubber on the car will have to be replaced, etc., etc., etc.

Pay $25K, then restore it??? Not moi. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

OK... is it just me or does this seem a little hinky ???

Something just doesn't look right.

it looks TOO fresh for sitting 25 years.

and did the zeroes ride that high on a brand new odometer?

I smelled a rat too.....Look at the final picture, the one of the ID palte, and you will see evidence of paint on the upper left corner of the catalyst sticker, plus flaws indicating paint having been applied over a poorly-prepared surface. It may be kosher, but I suspect some remedial work at the very least!

It is a nice looking car, not sure if someone istrying to pull the wool over ours eyes on this one or not, but either way no 80 spitfire is worth that. At best I'd say maybe $5000 to $7000.

Being that it was made by Triumph in that era I'd say that actually points toward authenticity. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Well, I am no fan of this particular dealer, he sold my friend a Arizona MGB.... via New Jersey. Right rear full quarter was full of mud and a half inch thick at the wheel arch flange.Sold buy pix and verbal discription alone. BUT, in his defense... my pix of the Spit are not that clear, but those stickers have a tendencey to peel and break at the corners, which could make it look like an overspray job.I didnt find any other clues to describe cause of the pix quality. One question though, why a batt cut off switch on a new car?
