Basil kindly gave me the okay to post this, I thought the guys that make up this great board should have a chance at the car, too. Please PM me if you want a ticket and I'll put you on the list. I will be checking my PMs a couple of times a day.
The British Car Club of Charleston likes to support local causes and this year our new president had an idea that the club's beneficiary should have youngsters connected to cars, somehow. Over the last couple of seasons, myself and a fellow club member have taken an autobody class at a local vocational school that is located in a low income area of North Charleston. The teacher is a great guy and is dedicated to investing in the kids that take his class. Those that do reasonably well can make better money than most; an old friend runs a bodyshop around the corner from us and he says a decent body guy can make $80k to $100k a year if he hustles. He is begging for body techs.
The class has no budget ($600 per year) from the school district so we thought that we would take the proceeds from the show and buy the shop 3 complete sets of very badly needed tools. These are mostly young black kids, getting them interested in this area is something that can really make a difference on many levels. They can't get a lot of practical experience without the tools to do the work.
To get to the $25 Jag, it is indeed true. A local couple has donated a very clean and nice 1991 Jaguar Sovereign with 89K miles to the club to raffle off with the proceeds going to the Garrett Academy Autobody class. Only 200 tickets will be sold at $25 each. We are excited about the exposure this will bring to the Class, the club, and the LBC enthusiasts in general.
If you would like to purchase raffle tickets then please PM me with your information. I will pull and hold the tickets for you until we receive the money. We expect to sell them all pretty quickly. I have more pics at the office and will post them tomorrow.
We appreciate any support for this most worthwhile project.
