Oh well, to most peoples surprise, it does get quite cold here around January and February, especially at night. Mid 20s is not uncommon.

Usually jumps up 25 to 30 degrees by noon though and that eases the pain a little.

What part of Sc are you from Paul? I live in Summerville.
The upstate might get an ice storm today I hear. Crazy weather, 70 degrees all last week and frost the last 2 mornings.

Been a bit of up-and-down at this end, too. Last week was shorts 'n flip-flops. Week before was PARKA weather. This week has been cold again, we're headed for a rainy weekend with low 70's...

weird. Lookin' forward to the END of February. Real BAD.

Our winter is part of Jan and Feb Doc. we (those who live in Florida) surely are lucky.

It gets cold in the winter? I don't believe it.

'twas 35 here a couple mornings ago when I left for work.

Just south of Loris, 25 miles west of N. Myrtle Beach. Farms and Horse farms. It's a friendly little old tobacco town that is starting to grow due to the western movement of the Myrtle Beach building contractors and the influx of people coming from the North and believe it or not, Florida. I understand that people are moving out of Florida due to the rising insurance costs. The building boom in this area never stops!

Snowed in north Alabama y'day...colder'n a witch's tit in a frosted brass bra this morning!

I have noticed a large exodus of people from Fl. heading to Ga., Tenn. and the Carolinas in the past couple of years. It's not just the soaring insurance costs, the cost of living is also on a rapid rise down here (all them Noo Yarkers I'll bet)!!!

29 degrees F here in C'ville, and snowing so hard I can barely see across the street.

However, our intrepid City Public Works crews have enough salt and chemicals on the City streets to fill the Grand Canyon.

Tax dollars at work . . .

A few years ago we had about an inch of snow. You would have thought we had three foot, as everything ground to a halt. Schools closed and some very daring people flooded the grocery stores. It was the craziest thing you ever saw. If a snow flake is in the forecast, you would not believe how the people react. In the western part of the state, their a little more accustomed to some snow in the winter, but not here on the coast.

Hi There Paul & roofman;

Russ writing from NE PA. Hopefully in the near future to become a permanent resident of Up-State SC (Travelers Rest is what I`m striving for): /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

If my darn house ever sells here; I`m out of here! About 3" of the white stuff last night (Not bad); At least not "ICE". Temps this Sun are expected to be in the single digit area (Not Good) especially with the cost of heating feul these days; Its killing me! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

I have a 3000sq ft home heated with Propane. Propane is currently, (Today), approx. $2.40: Oil is in the $3.20 bracket & Kerosine is around $3.40. When is this going to end??? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

I surely hope you folks down south won`t mind just one more northern down there driving around in an LBC: /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

Stay warm;

Regards, Russ /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

PS: Hey Paul; I love the farm, horse ranch living style. What would a "Level" 3acre pcs. of property cost down there?

Woke up to a foggy 65* dawn down here. Looking out the window it reminded me of Pa.in the fall with palms!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Ain't THAT th' truth. Burn'd off for the most part here by now. Still, gonna send 'smits off with: "Lights on fer safety!" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I haven't chekced temps today but yesterday morning on my drive to work it was 3 degrees - it was 31 below in Alamosa, CO.

...my nose just went numb...

Russ, property values are hard to predict around here as they vary drastically depending on location. Example, the property across the road from me is for sale for $325,000. That's 5 usable acres with a pond. Up the road property is going for $60,000. per acre. Farther inland the values drop about half. The more acreage you buy, the cheaper per acre.

Our home is about the same size as yours but is total electric. It has duel heat pumps that take care of heat and air. Our average electric bill per month for the whole year is around $170.00. That's keeping the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The house is about 6 years old and is built according to the electric company's specifications, including special window glass and insulation. They even specified what hot water heater we had to install. I wouldn't change a thing.
