I'm nearing completion on the series of '53 and '54 speed record and endurance car prints. There are several versions available:
Keep in mind that the photo record on these significant cars is fairly scarce as are written recollections of the various configurations. I'm working mainly from Geoff Healey's "The Specials" as well as the restorations/recreations from Steve Pike and Tom Kovacs. Tom has also been good enough to take time from his restorations to answer a few questions for me. As of this post, I'm waiting on images of the David Brown center shift gearbox used in the '54 car to complete the set but here are the '53 cars and the '54 car (without the DB box).
This is one project where I've probably spent more time learning and researching the cars than I did drawing them.
I should have the order form up at some point tomorrow and will post up about it's availability when ready. In the meantime, in all of their "Listerine" green glory, here they are.
- 1953 Bonneville car as it was delivered to the salt flats (headrest fairing, spats, etc.)
- 1953 Bonneville car as it was configured for the speed record run
- 1953 Bonneville car as it was set up for the endurance run
- 1954 car with center shift gearbox, Dunlop wheels and disc brakes
- 1953 Bonneville "tribute" car as recreated by a number of well known builders (not shown).
