215 Buick into 79 "B"

I am in the process of negotating a price for a 79 "B" that I would like to convert to a 215 Buick. How difficult is this task?

Re: 215 Buick into 79 "B"

I have read up on this a bit, and it is an involved process. The good thing is the later cars, like the 79, was designed for the Buick/Rover V8.

There are other sites that have specific V8 forums, but I am sure there are some others here who have done the swap.

Re: 215 Buick into 79 "B"

It is a project doable by the home mechanic with reasonable mechanical aptitude.

I recommend visiting two "alternative" websites (sorry, Basil) :

https://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=tlist&subject=36

and

You also need to become friends with these folks:

The 1977 through 1980 MGB engine bays are ready and willing to accept the BOPR V8...the 1974-1/2 through 1976 will require some additional modifications in the engine bay...earlier MGBs require even more cutting and fabrication to accomodate this block.

Re: 215 Buick into 79 "B"

The latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports details an article about alot of the issues you are looking at and made the decision to go with a Miata 4 cyl. The differences are noted of the various MGs and how the different Miata motors fit. There will be 3 more issues detailing what it takes to make this swap. Regardless, an interesting read from a great mag.
