TR2/3/3A 2" SU's on a TR3?

There is a set of 2" Su's for sale on Ebay from a TR8. I have a 4 manifold that someone had modified for the 2" carbs. I was wondering if the 3 motor would be over carburated if I used this setup? My motor has a mild street cam and header. Would this be overkill. Any opinions? Karl

They're overkill if you don't plan to extract every single last bit of horsepower out of the TR 4cyl engines and plan to run 7000+ rpm.. and even then here is debate amongst engine builders/tuners whether they make more power or not over an 1 3/4" SU. Two HS6's are good for 200hp or so.

It's all about airflow, cubic inches and RPM....and I really doubt that your TR3 has enuff of any of these...

As stated above, the 1 3/4" SU can flow enough for some impressive HP figures. However, since the SU design is a variable venturi, this makes them, by nature, self adjusting for air and fuel flow. The problem that you might run into is whether or not the needles and piston springs are opitimized for the application. I can assure you that the engine will start and run, and you might not even notice the difference between the 2" and the 1 3/4". Since you're contemplating buying these off of e-bay, I feel you would be better off just looking for an 1 3/4" manifold. I just bought one a few weeks ago off e-bay for about $22...a whole lot cheaper then 2" SU's. They come up all the time on e-bay.

I actually have a spare intake manifold for the TR3. It is the short parallel runner intake manifold. The later, long curved runner, TR4 intake manifold flows better if you find one of those buy it. If you are interested in my spare, send me a PM.
