2 speedometer questions

I have a couple of speedometers. I have attached two photos. One has a white metal case and one has a stamped steel case. The white metal case unit is 1 5/8" thick at the edge, the steel case is 1 1/4" thick. I suspect one is a 2-3 and the other is for a 4. Can someone ID these for me?

2nd Question, is the high beam indicator lens red or blue? Can you buy one? If it missing, and I can't buy one what do I use as a substitute?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks to all the Veterans who helped make this a great country and protected our freedoms so that we can have a BCF!

My early TR3A TS 27489 LO has the one made of white metal. I know that it is the original one that came with the car.

The BRG TR3A we finished last year had the sheet-metal one, but I have no idea if that is what came with the car. It's a late TR3A TS 81551 L. I remember that we had a lot of trouble to get the re-set push-rod to line up with the hole in the dash. We had to modify the innards as well as file a slotted hole in the sheet-metal case.

Measure the distance from the back of the chrome bezel to the centerline of the re-set push-rod and go with the one that fits. Or install it in the dash and see if the re-set rod lines up with the hole in the bottom flange of your dash.

Paint the bulb? There is a specific paint to use (and it might be nail polish) but I'm not sure what it is.

Use a small wafer cut from the appropriate color of translucent plastic, as found on folder marking tabs. You may have to use more than one to get the quality of the color and light correct.

There was (I think) a lot of variation in the speedos, even among the 3s & 4s. For accuracy of course the important thing is that 4 digit number on the face as that is the number of times the cable should turn in a mile.

I have seen red, green and blue hi-beam jewels... possibly blue or red for TR3 & green for TR4 but these units get swapped around pretty freely so I rally can't say based on what I've seen.

I like the "paint the bulb" Brosky suggested. A great "keep it simple stupid" idea.

Mine was missing in the TR3 and I happened to have an old Mini speedo that had three of them each a different colour. I just took one from there. I should look if I still have that speedo as I would give you one of the others. Let me get back to you.

Thanks Adrio.
In the "for what its worth" department the steel case one has a totally different spacing on the mounting screws. So it will not fit the 3 dash plate anyway. Would still like to know what it goes to though.

Thanks, Tinkerman
