2 part question: fuel filter location, Oil filter.

Dudly

Morning everyone.

I was wondering if it would be a poor choice to move the fuel filter on my 79 spit from the outlet side of the fuel pump to the intake side. this arrangement would allow the filter to be placed in an area farther away from the hellfire side of the motor. Currently it resides 3" or so from the stock carb, in this location it only receives half or less of the heat shield benefit.

Second question, who makes the best oil filter for the 79 spit, what part number is it as well, if you'd be so kind.

Thanks everyone

P.S. My better half and I had a silly fun day of motoring in the rain over the past weekend. (go see Star Trek, it was darn good fun! )

I use K&N oil filters for all my cars no matter what I use them for. I started using these when K&N 1st started selling them, and will continue to use them till something better comes out or they stop making them. The part # given for the K&N filter for my '80 OD Spit 1500 is HP-2004. I'm not completely sure if this # is going to be right for my mine or your car yet, as I've not even had my spit long enough to do my 1st oil change... (out of country for last 3 months and got it just before then)... but I have that specific filter in my garage ready to go.

I don't see any problem moving it. Frankly, I think it makes more sense to have it on the intake side of the fuel pump. So did Triumph, back when my long-gone '69 Mk3 Spitfire was new!

Star Trek WAS darn good fun! Great movie!

The filter on my 73 Spit is located back by the fuel tank. Easy location to get to.

Aloha,

The TR3 & 4 have a built in fuel filter on the inlet side of the fuel pump. It is a screen and sediment bowl, but collects the big chunks. I don't see moving moving your fuel filter as being a problem.

WIX is a well respected manufacturer of oil filters. They also make most of the NAPA Gold oil filters. From the internet, a '79 Spitfire 1500 would use a WIX filter 51374 and the NAPA Gold Filter is FIL 1374.
