Rich - thanks for sharing the photos - yet impressive and I did see quite a serious hammer in one of the photos. I hope to see you in a couple of days and I also hope you are thirsty. jim:driving:
 
Rich, beautiful re-do and so well photo documented. Photo 345 shows aluminum shims for the driver's side windshield post. I inadvertently put the shims on the passenger side and cracked the original windshield after I re-installed it. Then I replaced the windshield and didn't switch the shims because I didn't know that was the cause. The replacement cracked in exactly the same place:

However, I did put two fender washers under the driver's side, so there was some shimming. Did you put any shims on the passenger side? I only had one pair of shims that originally were on the driver's side. I want to make sure I get it right before I get another replacement windshield.

I shimmed the passenger side and not driver side because there was a 1/4 gap on passenger side but it was tight on driver side. I used aluminum that I made up until it was snug. Then I drilled holes through the shim and tightened the bolts. Tom Monaco warned me about that before I cracked a windshield. Expensive lesson....

Thanks, Rich, I thought your photo showed the shims on the driver's side, so I guess you just need to shim the gap no matter which side it occurs. Steve, The shims on my car look homemade, but must have come from the factory. I doubt there is a part supply because it is so easy to make them yourself as Rich did.
 
OK, I get it - my car doesn't have the variation in the chassis that causes there to be gaps in these positions. If it's a matter of 1/4" gap, wouldn't one be better off shimming it 1/8" on both sides and therefore centering the windshield?

Steve, that sounds great in theory, but in my car there was no wiggle room left-right and the windshield posts slide down the slots with relative precision...kind of rare in a Healey. :friendly_wink:
 
I just made it to my first Encounter in Hershey, PA. It was great fun and I took this short video of part of the ride home.

Rich - thanks for sharing, I know that road well, I am from the area, on the way to the PA turnpike. Actually, it has not changed much in the last 50 years, except for the number of vehicles that you passed!!! Glad you enjoyed your first Encounter - jim:driving:
