1st Car show of 08

Our first show of the year....some BEAUTIFUL American muscle...camaro, Chevy Chevelles....but here were a couple of pleasant surprises

I actually stopped and talked with the "new" owners who had just purchased this car. They did not do the restore work and bought it done. (I guess that's the way for many people) Perhaps they will enter it and someone will point this out to them. If I see them again, maybe I can find a way to "slip" that info into the conversation... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Our first outdoor show won't be until April... And we do have the indoors World of Wheels next month (although 99% American stuff).

I did attend the Calgary Motorcycle Show this weekend, indoors of course, and I did spot this motorbike outside nearby the show, I'm assuming...

That's the cheapest way to get a fully restored car. Besides, some people prefer to drive a car for 10 years instead of restoring it for 10 years! I'm one of them. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif We bought our MGA 99% completed and got it for literally half the price it would have been to do it myself.

Blah, radiator grills were made to be customized. There's a nice gentleman up in Canada with a black and white checkerboard grill. Not my style, but cool nonetheless. A friend has a TC with mesh instead of slats which looks great as well, and it was a common thing to do on sports cars of the era.

My TC is red on red with black interior. While I strive for absolute originality in most areas, I find bronze grills too common. I also prefer black interior with red paint. In 50 years someone else can change it to tan should they desire.

THe 1st one is a 1925 Vernon Derby...the owner said it was a French Racing car. Only 3 were built. He had some great beore and after pics. I thought it was interesting.

Actually, the red grill is a correct color. However black was never a factory offering for a red car. Therefore if I wanted my car to be factory-correct, the interior would have to change, not the grill color.

My point is that while I'm a purist at heart, some things are traditionally personalized. Grill colors and paint schemes are one of those things. I never take points off someone's car for a change of grill color. Well, unless it's ugly of course! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

I agree anything a person wants to do to their car is fine by me....its just that so mant of the T-Series are restored incorrectly & the people who own them or restor them don't know any better....had he said, "I know it but I wanted them red" that would've been all it took...had he argued that they were correct, well.....

Oh, Vinnie: your interior is probably green since your car is original & unrestored!

I find that T-Series cars fall into two restoration categories. Those that are restored meticulously with attention to originality and/or period correctness, and those which are restored with intention to make a buck. I don't think it's necessarily that the restorer doesn't know better, I think they sometimes just don't care.

Fortunately I'm seeing less and less of this with the TABCs and TFs. There are still a lot of TDs getting restored improperly although I have noticed a lot of these cars being returned to proper specification.

& that's the only reason I point out things like black welting on a red car, slats a different color than interior, etc...&, remember, some period modifications/updates were wire wheels, chrome radiator slats & chrome headlight buckets on cars that didn't originally have them - those all look neat.

Can't be all that bad when you consider the incredible expanses of chrome on the big American cars of the same era!!!
