Some more details... there is paint bubbles under the passanger side mirror, and at the base of the windshield. No rust thru seen. The AC blows cool, the seats need restitched (not falling apart but needs tightened up as you can see all the seat beneath the stitching), the dash needs refinished as it looks like the clear coat is coming off, the paint is a metallic maroon and looks pretty sweet, it has gas caps on both sides (is this normal?) the rest of the car is sold, runs well, all windows work as the the cruise control.

It has been sitting awhile and I am sure he is willing to deal but I need a base line to start at.

The easy one first.........yes, these cars have twin gas tanks! There is a switch on the dashboard that allows you to go from one to the other.

Rust is the enemy on the older Jags. The bubbles below the passenger side mirror on the door should not be an issue, of more concern to me would be the ones at the base of the windshield. Red flags there. Check them out properly, if there is rust-through under the bubbles it's a potentially expensive repair. Likewise, check carefully around the rear windshield as well.....that's not a good sign if there is evidence of rust there.

From your description though, it sounds as if this is a nice one. The seats and the dashboard should not be that big of a deal, and all the important stuff works. Check operation of the flaps in the HVAC system. It's all hydraulics in there, and a potential nightmare to fix if there is a problem. Hisses and mild clunks are normal sounds.

Value on such a car is always subjective, but my gut is saying go for $2,000 if you are satisfied that the bubbles around the windshield are not going to be a problem, and see if he will bite. Someone may have a differing opinion of course, but that's my suggestion.

well I did see how far down he would go, he is not dealing cause he "has a classic" I pointed out the begining of the rot and such but no budging. I left my number and if he calls back I will let you guys know, Thanks
 
not to mention that...it is very easy to replace a speedometer in these cars...they fail often...so the real mileage needs to be documented and proved in other ways. I never buy a car believing the Mileage shown, because of the above. So the question is: does the car LOOK like 86k miles? or does it LOOK like 186k miles? Anybody can answer that question just by looking at it.
