MGB 1980 MGB wiring diagram help

Howdy folks, I jumped the fence from the Triumph forum. A friend of a friend has a 1980 MGB Vin number GVDJ2A6514249, the VIN plate is stamped 04-80. After a long restoration he is trying to get it cranked up and the info he has (a wiring diagram from the PO) shows the starter wire going to the light switch. He says that when he tries to start it, things start to smoke. I can figure that, so he would like to get a real wiring diagram for the car. I'm a TR guy not an MG guy so I really can't help him, but if any of you folks out there could help out please send me a PM or email me (in profile).

Any and all help, deeply appreciated!

Thanks, Tinkerman

Dick... Does it have a ground cable at the engine/gearbox at a starter motor bolt to the chassis?

That'd be my "Step One".

Any later MGB that I've worked on that ground strap was back at the transmission mount. I've seen problems with them making a good connection though. Usually it will burn up the throttle cable or heater control cable or both.

Thanks folks. Yep, your right Don, but between a root canal and eye surgery, I just ain't quite up to snuff these past days.
I will pass the info along to my buddy.

Cheers, Dick

No worries Dick.
Couple of shots of your favorite spirits with some pain killers ought to take care of that

Good idea Don. Have to look into it, heh ......
