TR6 1974 TR6 Wheel lug torque

What is the common practice for standard stock steel wheels? I've heard of everything from 45-80. Below 50 seems low and 80 seems high. I'm thinking of splitting the difference at 55 or 60.

Gerry, 65 has always been what I shoot for, in layman's turns "Grunt tight" as opposed to D... Tight 80 pounds or you know what tight 105 pounds (TR4 head bolts).

I use 65 pounds on both my Panasports and on my steel wheels on my Tr250.

I hope I am not being too contrarian here, but I have always subscribed to the theory that a relatively large nut doing an important job and taking big loads should be torqued to "good and tight" I have never used a torque wrench when putting one lug nuts (OK once on a friends car when he was having back trouble and asked me to help, his car his rules) and I have never had a problem with lug nuts coming loose or being so tight they broke something or couldn't be removed (except for a couple times when I just snugged them on, got distracted and forgot the "good and tight" step, but luckily both times I got enough worrying signs that I pulled the car over before the wheel came off :wink-new
