TR6 1974 Tr6 ignition switch

Sometimes my key won’t go in the key hole in the ignition switch.
I put some graphic in it and it seemed to work for a while. I stick a mini screwdriver in and move it around then the key goes in
Do I have to take the whole thing off the steering column ( which looks like a pain)?
or can I just get the lock part out of the center of the whole thing

ISTR the switch splits in half, held together with a tiny Phillips screw. I did a post on the ‘74 ignition switch on this very forum. You will probably need to remove the speedo and tach gauges to access the screws holding the switch to the steering column.

Search around early 2007 for some helpful posts on this topic.

It's not that easy unless someone replaced it in the past. The two little screws only hold the electrical part. The original switch is held in by 2 tamper proof ("break away") bolts. There are various ways to get them out but all require cutting or drilling, as far as I know.
I replaced mine with socket head bolts and had to turn down the heads on the lathe as the hardware store ones were slightly too large.
(I used a TR6 667-850 switch on my Lotus and the setup is pretty much the same.)

I had an issue with the key not always turning the lock on the ignition. The actual lock barrel can be removed, but I "think" it is held in with a very small roll pin,
which I drilled out. My lock tumbler was worn out, and the pins were falling out of their respective bores. I bought what may have been one of the last replacement
