MGB 1974 MGB convertible top anchor bar size

Top frame's now installed and seems good, so now it's time to put the new vinyl hood on. This has been a long time in coming, so the piece of scrap metal I used to use for the anchor bar at the rear of the old top/hood has disappeared.

They're available in the catalogs, but I don't want to wait on a mail-order to get here or triple its cost by adding next-day air shipment. What is a good size for something like this? I've been told to use steel 1/8" thick and 1" wide, but not sure about the length.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you,
-William

Hey, William -

Just went out and measured mine; it's 35" long. Ends taper to a rounded point for inserting into the top pocket.

Thanks, Mickey.
Think this is something I could get at the local Ace/Lowes/Home Despot? Probably get a slightly longer length so I can trim down the corners and make the ends round?

Probably can find some flat bar stock at the usual outlets. I would imagine they're available in 36" lengths, which would be perfect to cut down.

Mine is about the same, except that it's just rounded at the corners. Each end is flat with no sharp edges.
