1973 TR6 oil and filter changed - oil shooting out from high pressure valve?

1973 TR6 oil and filter changed (which is a pain - already ordered the conversion kit) but now when I start the car oil shoots out from what it seems like a high oil pressure emergency valve - not sure why this is happening- please help! I took the filter off twice to make sure that it was aligned correctly.

It must be the old canister type filter. I think there should be a new "O" ring with the filter. If there was did you get the old "O" ring out first before fitting the new one.?
There should be a spring washer and a spring clip on the long bolt.

If you are talking about the Oil pressure valve below the distributor. It is set at about 100 psi as an geared type oil pump will put out high pressure with out a check valve. Normally the spring will brake and you will not get good oil pressure. If it were to to stick closed no telling what could happen. You can simply unscrew the cap and check the pin and spring and copper washer no oil will come out as it is above the oil pan. Mine ounce stuck open due to wear and at idle pressure went to zero. They are cheep so I would replace it if you never touched it before. If your leak is really from the oil filter can just start over and make sure to remove the old seal not just add. REMBER cold oil pressure will be 100 plus psi

Since there is no HIGH PRESSURE EMERGENCY VALVE maybe he messed up the plastic oil pressure line that goes from the block to the gauge on the dash in the process of doing whatever he was doing

The fitting that the arrow is pointing to should have a line to feed the oil pressure gauge.
Does your oil pressure gauge work?

I think I found the replacement on eBay - thanks again for everyone's help here..
Don’t get a plastic replacement. As long as you are going to go to the trouble to install, get a SS Braided oil line. TSI has them.

And note that there is a little leather sealing washer for the fitting where the oil line attaches to the oil pressure gauge.

Ordered braided oil line!! Thanks
Just a tip… If you remove the ashtray you will be able to remove the oil pressure gauge in order to install the new line.
