Has anyone had any experience working on this? I would rather not have the power brakes than this stupid unit, but its got it, and what can I do?

Has anyone replaced with one out of another kind of car, or converted it to regular brakes?

Try this website out for a reliable answer to your question. A few highly knowledgable GT6 racers lurk here, one of them a former SCCA champion GT6 driver (Steve Smith).

They seem to know a lot about GT6 nuances.

Most folks will tell you that the power assist isn't necessary if the brake are properly set up.

I had the same problem with my 73 GT6. The unit is no longer available, but you can substitute another booster unit, e.g. the servo kit from Spitbits https://www.spitbits.com/gt6brakes.htm and other vendors. I used this as a replacement, and unlike some others you'll hear from, found it to work fine. Non original, but functional.
 
Where does the vacuum line hook up? I thought it hooked up on the intake manifold, but my intake doesn't have that spot. Is there any way to convert it over to something like a Datsun brake setup?
 
In my car I was replacing the stock booster with the kit, so it hooked into the same vacuum source as the stock. (this was a few years ago - the details are hazy)

No reason (other than cost and the PITA factor) why the manifold couldn't be tapped for a vac nipple.
