1970 MG Midget

Hi: I just bought a 1970 Mg Midget and I'm restoring it. I'm missing the tachometer and the switch located at the tachometer's left. Do you know what the tachometer part number is and which one is the switch located there? Maybe fog lights? Also, do you know where I can find them both (tach and switch)? The other question is: Is this car (1275 cc) a 3 or 4 speed car plus reverse? Thanks alot for you help!

Welcome to the BCF forum, where you will find answers to all (or most) of your questions. You will get a faster reply to your question by posting in the Spridget forum. Not all of the Spriget guys (and gals) check the MG forum which is more for the T series, A, B, and C models.
The Spriget forum is very active and a font of information for all things Sprite and Midget.
Again, welcome. We're glad to have you.

I'm pretty sure the switch is the heater fan.

You should be able to find the switch at Moss Motors or (probably cheaper at) several of the forum sponsors, though I'm unsure as to whether you'll be able to find a tach new. Probably need to ask on the spridget forum regarding used ones.

Not sure about the switch, but all Spridgets (any year) had a 4 speed + reverse. Your 1970 will be a standard H pattern with first up and to the left in the H.

Reverse is all the way to the right and down.

Welcome!

Since you do not have a tach, be flexible. Your 1970 probably came with an 80mm RVI type Smiths tach. That type of tach will not work with electronic ignitions. You can instead fit a later RVC type tach that will look similar and will work with electronic ignitions. Though this may not sound important now, at some point you are likely to want to try one of the aftermarket electronic ignitions and having the RVC tach eliminates one thing to worry about.

Thanks alot to everyone. I'll be asking for these parts in the forum sponsors and in the Spridget forum, since I also need all the gear pinions! Thanks alot again!
