1970 MG Midget Gearbox

Hi again! I asked a few days ago about my 1970 MG Midget being 3 or 4 speed. Everybody told me it was a 4 speed car plus reverse, and looking everywhere seems to be alright. But my car has only 3 pinions, and looking in Victoria British gearbox diagram for my 1275 cc car has also only 3 pinions. Is it possible that my car has only 3 forward speed plus reverse? I'm new at this and this is my first car, so I'm sorry for the insistence! I just want my car to be perfect!

Unless someone swapped in some other gearbox from a completely different car, your '70 Midget has 4 forward speeds plus reverse. All Spridgets from the 1958 Bugeye to the last car in 1979 had a 4-speed from the factory. No other option.

If you're looking at the VB diagram, remember that 4th "gear" is really just tying the input and output shafts together with the 3-4 synchro. The layshaft gears are for the lower speeds.
