Drove by a dark green Mercedes convertible this afternoon, turned around for a second look. 1970 280 SL. Decent paint, top looks new. Interior clean but showing wear. Only real flaw I could see was the driver side front edge of the hood was misaligned. Bad hinge maybe?Called the owner, haven't connected as yet. Looking to see what the brain trust here knows about these. Thanks! :smile:
 
I think they are great cars. I grew up around a 67 example, and have always been enamored with them since. What's the asking price? Those old 6 cylinders are excellent engines and can run forever if maintained well. I hope it is a standard, the automatics are a bit mushy for my tastes. The one thing I'd really watch out for is rust. Happy hunting.
 
Did a restoration on a '70 a number of years back, really like 'em. Not sure there were any standard shift ones brought in after '69 though.
 
Oh really? I knew that they quit doing that in some models, but I thought the 280 could be had in a standard up till the end of their production. Just goes to show you learn something new every day.
 
I know of one that is sitting in a barn for close to two decades. Unfortunately, it has sunk into the ground so that the frame is in direct contact with Terra Firma. I don't know what kind of shape its going to be in when they get it out. At some point, someone is going to have to move it as the property is going to be sold as part of a divorce settlement.
