1968-71 Center Consoles?

So, what's up with these? I've had two '68-71 MGBs, and both of them came with the AMCO center console. On the other hand, everyone tells me that these are incredibly rare and that nobody has one. They don't seem to be in the catalogs.. So what's up? Are these rare, or common? Does anyone make reproductions of them?

Just curious if I should start looking for a high-injection plastic factory to make more.

IIRC (I don't have my books handy), there was no center console in the B for those years. If, by center console, you mean an armrest thingie that goes on the transmission tunnel and has an ashtray and cubbyhole. Our '71 certainly doesn't have one. I have a feeling that the AMCO console is an aftermarket addon, probably dealership installed. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it prolly looks like the one that was standard in rubber bumper cars. Not a bad item, really, and if its period correct, worth keeping in the car.
Hope this helps!

AMCO made all kinds of aftermarket accessories as well as consoles, tops & tonneau covers. They went out of business some time ago but there are still lots of NOS stuff offered on Ebay from time to time.

Yeah - what Dave said. I think Amco made a lot of the luggage racks you can't get anymore. From what I gather a lot of their stuff was considered "standard equipment" by some owners, but they were added-on by the dealers and don't appear in a lot of books (especially those written from the manufacturers & British point of view).
