1967 Jaguar 420 Engine, etc

Hey there! I have recently encountered a complete RHD 420 1967 Jag. It is complete with drive trane but body and interior seem non restorable. I am not really familiar with these cars or their parts but I am thinking of parting it out. The engine and trans are still in the car. I am planning on pulling them, cleaning up and selling them.Is there a demand for these parts or are they readily available? We had an XK 150 about 35 years ago that seemed to have the same engine in it but a different trans. Anyway, I guess I want to know.... is it worththe effort? Will I be able to sell the parts here or on Ebay? I could not find comperable units in the current or sold listings. Any input appriciated! Thx, CTP

Don't know about the RHD part but I see 420s all the time for sale and not too expensive. The engines of those cars might be more akin to the E-types than the XKs of ten years previous. Do you know if it is a 3.8 or 4.2? What kind and number of carburators does it have? Stick or auto?

Ithought all of the 420's were 4.2 but I guess I will have to check to be sure. It is a two carb setup. It have a 4 speed manual with OD in it. I am not planning on keeping or restoring the car, just want to know how much the effort to part it out would be worth. Probably though, if you see 420's all the time for cheap, the motors and transmissions are also readily available and cheap too? Seems to figure. Such a beautiful motor though! I kinof like SU's too, so maybe I will keep it.....

Of course, that would make sense. It's a 4.2. Must have had a brain fart. I'm looking for an early saloon car with a chassis, to put under my XK120 replica project. Too bad the 420s were unibody.

I would be interested in the carbs. Does it have power steering? If so, it has the "marles variomatic" steering with a GM style power steering pump. This is a desireable conversion for a mark 2 (RHD only in this case). If you change over the whole front subframe, you can upgrade a MK 2 to bigger better front brakes.
Look on the back cover of the diff for 2 tags. One has the ratio, and some are more sought after than others, and if it has it, one may say "powerlock", also desireable. The OD trans fits many cars. It should be the Jag built 4 speed all synchro box. The other part I need, if the car has power steering, is the engine mount that bolts to the body, that the PS pump partly attaches to.
Plus there are a zillion other bits that can be sold off, trim, original date coded electrical parts, etc etc. As the 420 is fairly rare by Jag standards, you should be able to make a few bucks.

Well I would post some pics here if I could figure out how. a friend offeredthe car to me for around $1k. It's really rough but I like 'em that way I guess....(at least my wife thinks so!) I may pick it up and try and get it running. Don't knowif it has power steering. I never thought of the diff.... will have to look and see what it is.

I think I see the cap for the ps pump below that horror of a top hose. Too bad it is so beat, they are actually OK cars, almost as sporty as a series 1 XJ6. Still, it would cost a medium size fortune to restore it. I have a RHD mark 2 parts car here in the same color scheme. Gray, red and rust.... They would make a nice pair.

Had to look that on up! Perhaps, but that's what we call them here in Ohio at least until they become mostly earth again! This one is pretty close to that but I think there are a lot of usable parts left. Just don't know if I want to spend the time and energy needed to harvest them.
