I thought the same about mine. My son took it apart and it works great. Not the 2 speed but still glad he figured it out. If the windings are toast then it's probably not save able. You can find someone selling a used on 2nd hand. They do come up for sale. Should be the same unit as used in the Spridget, spitfire and MGA so a few might be available.
