1964 MkII Midget

Did you guys notice the old CB radio installed in the later-year radio console?

And if you look closely at the round thing between the grille & driverside headlight....that's the place where the RV tail/brake lights plug into the car....gonna be interesting looking at how that was tied into the wiring harness.

What's that line on the hood? Not the normal hood trim is it? or the sill trim, or the Midget emblem on the sill plate?

Chrome strip for the MG.

It's not the normal MG hood trim though I don't think, looks like skinny side moulding trim stuck on the hood?

No, somewhere along the line they removed all the trim & replaced it with stick-on stuff...I have the old piece off the hood of my '63 & will send it off for rechroming (new piece is almost $300)...will just replace all the other trim with new as I get around to it.

Heck, I've botta do a close evaluation of it & start pulling stuff off my shelves for it.

I tracked and bought a chrome hood piece off ebay for $2.80. Couldn't believe it. It's in good shape too. I went and bought most of the other trim I needed from the same guy. I'll have to make work of getting it on the car. Looks great Tony, it's lucky to have found you!

That'll take a bit...but this might help:

"Midget collection complete!"

But the Mark III comes in so many flavors, from the '67 with metal dash, to the mid-years with padded dash, then side lights, then different bumpers and wheels, then round rear wheel arches. Surely you can come up with an excuse for buying more!

Just kidding--sort of

But sincere congratulations on adding the the collection. Greg
No, most of those (after '67) are MkIII Midgets.

That first picture is YOUR '63, yes?
I like the mouldings. I need to get mine on! Is that a sway bar on there?

My good natured point was there are differences in cars if you want to keep going particularly the Mark III, which came in a variety of different trims, black grills and rockers on later cars--round arch v. square arch.

I didn't say they weren't mark IIIs, but arguably there are fewer differences between a late Mark II and Early Mark III than an early Mark III and a late Mark III.

Just trying to have a little fun with the hobby and making up reasons for you to buy more cars if you are so inclined.

Have fun

Greg

All 4 of those cars are mine...that photo was taken at the Lake of the Ozarks 50th show...yep, we installed several options: a sway bar, dual horns, oil cooler.

Think I'll stop with these 4 Midgets, Greg!

Now, I have to find a YB Saloon.....but, re,member, I don't buy freshly restored cars - I prefer original (or, possibly, older restorations), non-molested, complete examples.

& it's now in my garage with the correct factory hardtop (which I just happened to have in all my stuff...hehehe) installed.

So, I'll start collecting up all the stuff it doesn't have (trim) & sort through all the new stuff I had left over from my '63's restoration that go with it also....I'll load the trunk with all of the parts so that when I'm ready to tackle another Midget, it'll be ready.

The Sprite-Midget club needs to get busy for the 2011 - 50th anniversary of the MG Midget!

Then you'll have a deadline.

Doesn't ya mean the 82nd aniversary...

Clarify that comment for me. Which model did the factory designate as a "Midget"?

OK, I know that they were dubbed the midget and later "Marketed" as a midget, but the model type was not badged as a midget until the modern spridget.

Correct?

M, J, ...

They were mostly badged as MG, and all over the place, lots of octogans. Never have I seen a M, P etc badge.

The owners manual was labeled MG Midget. Type ____

I think that is enough for me.

I agree that the early cars were also 'Midgets'.....my '53 TD is a Midget.

Believe they're thinking of the 50th anniversary of the 'modern' Midget in 2011.

I agree that there are early cars that are Midgets (that was the term used to describe a "class") of cars. However, the modern "Midget" is a model of car.

You'll never change my mind.

Sorry to hijack your thread Tony, but it is cold and raining here.
