1964 BJ 8 Grille

Hello,

I need some input on the best way to restore the chrome grille, cowl and surround. Several slats on the grille are dented. Does anyone have any experience with replacing these slats? Would it be better to buy new or have them re-chromed. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.
I am in N.E. Pa.

Thanks,
Lynn

It much better to have the original pieces rechromed as you are sure of a proper fit.

Replacing the slats can be done fairly easy using a proper rivit upsetter.

I agree with some of the above. A replacement slat will not likely match closely enough to look right. The slats are anodized aluminum and should not be chromed unless you do all of them. You do have the advantage though to be able to purchase a new grille relatively affordably being a BJ8. I have purchased one of these new grilles before and they are very good. Figure about $160 delivered.
