before swapping in the 8 new studs, any advice on best way to clean out chamber to ensure proper seating? solvents? WD 40? simple 1/2 inch bottle brush and/or clean rag? compressed air (as in computer or keyboard use)?
if more than one step, any specific order? Thanks
 
Ditto on John - but brake cleaner works well. (Use in ventilated area, wear nitrile gloves, etc. - nasty stuff.)

Note, it will clear any protecting oil... if you do not plan on running the motor for a bit, rust moves in quickly. Helps to smear / fog oil on metal surfaces. Especially in humid Florida. (I will be jealous in January!)
 
To clean the combustion chamber and areas around it use carburetor cleaner in a spray bottle; it will clean all the carbon out and will not hurt anything. There is no rubber anywhere in there to hurt. One can will do the whole head.
