I am looking at a 59 MGA. The car is a basket case. The owner started retoring, has frame floor boards, engine exhaust and suspension finished. The car is complete except for the interior and dash. It does need some body work but nothing too major he is asking 2000. It also has mgb rear gearing. Is this a good deal. What else should i look for. TIA
 
What you describe doesn't sound like a basket case to me! Pictures would help though.
MGAs are desirable cars and you can see some of the prices they fetch on eBay. There's one right now, asking $2,995 for what I might call a basket case, almost! Doesn't mean they'l get it of course.

What you're describing is about right for an MGA that needs total restoration...I wouldn't balk if the car is solid & straight & has all its pieces.
 
The car is on wausau, WI craigslist. I cant get it here at work, craigslist is blocked. I am on the fence, i would like to get it but i have a bugeye and a 240z that I need to finish up, this would just be another in the line.
Its missing the interior and dash and carbs and bumpers are shot. Otherwise everything else is there.
 
Don't we all have cars to restore that are "in line" :smile: I know I do. Sounds like a good deal.
 
Fully restored to factory, including a replacement of B bparts wit hproper A will produce a vehicle possibly worth over $20,000 at least that's what I've seen for some asking prices. A restoration with drivability in mind should still yield a done value of 12k-15k. 2k is not a bad place to start.
