Hi all,
I have a refurbished 100-6 that came with a non overdrive transmission and an overdrive off the car. The car runs great but I would like an overdrive. I have been looking for an overdrive transmission or thinking of having an overdrive main shaft installed. I also saw a centershift tranny with overdrive from a 1963 AH on ebay for $500 a while ago. No bids so I saved the link and checked recently. It is still for sale looking for an offer. Any advice on which way might be best since I don't know the condition of the ebay one and mine shifts great? I have seen mainshafts for $125 but I don't know if I dare replace the mainshaft myself. I have rebuilt engines, etc. but never a tranny. Any advice would be appreciated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

HI Chuck, the two transmissions you mentioned are significanly different.The $500.00 price tag is a good one but if it is buggered they are very expensive to fix and as I indicated earlier the difference in the two units prevents direct interchange of parts. Therefore,If you can locate the correct mainshaft for your transmission, in good condition and at a reasonable price installing one is not that difficult and I tend to favor that approach in this case.---Fwiw--Keoke
 
Have you contacted the seller to get any information about the unit offered for sale?

I've generally found private individuals to be more knowledgeable and forthcoming- it helps them make the sale while the more comercial non-Healey-specialist operations generally know little or nothing about what they're selling, and don't seem to care particularly....

That is the way I way leaning. I may be posting for help in dismantling and reassembly of my tranny in the next couple of months.
