1958 Austin Healey 100-6 Temp gauge connection

A bit of a quandry... I have a combo oil pressure and water temp gauge that for almost all intents and purposes is the correct one... However, the temp sensor if a NUT instead of a screw. In other words, the temp sensor is bolts to SOMETHING, while the cavity on the head is a screw... Anyone know what (or where) this sensor should be placed?? I have not found anything of its like in any manual or parts catalog. The gauge itself is the right color (silver white) and the oil pressure connects correctly and actually works... Thanks, Ron /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I assume this unit did not come off your car? If your 100-six was built before July 1958 the temp gauge sensor was fitted to the radiator. In the front left hand side at the undersize of the top. for the lack of a better discription. take a look you should find a nut at that location for the connection. If you want? I could send a pic - jim /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

I was in the same boat a few months ago. My "nut fitting" gauge didn't work in the water half. In my collection of useless parts I found another gauge but of the "screw in" type. I also tried to find an adapter without luck and ended up screwing the replacement gauge fitting into the head and destroying the old gauge capillary line so i could use the nut fitting end to block off the hole in the radiator. Healey106, Thanks for the note. The gauge was part of the rust basket that I purchased, sans radiator. It WAS manufactured in early '58. The radiator that I acquired does not have the fitting for the gauge. SOOOO, I will look for a new oil/temp gauge. Thanks for clearing the issue up...Ron /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif AND Bob, thanks for the story of your problem!!
