1958 100/6 "s"

The BN6s arrived after Works 100-Sixs had already run in several events with four wheel disc brakes, so homologation with BN6s would have been too late. The first cars fitted with the so-called 'left overs' from the 100S were BN4s in November/December 1957. Bill Piggott owned one of those cars. There are no records of how many BN4s were fitted this way. Dunlop disc brakes were also an option from the Donald Healey Motor Company. I guess what we know is that this car was fitted with disc brakes, probably from new. The rest is a good marketing story. It looks like a decent car but there are no photos of the underside, engine bay or interior. Typical auction house! I notice the car did not sell.

Experts - what is that unit in front of both door handles? a turn signal flasher? I have never seen that on any US early 100-sixs

thanks :driving:

I was aware of the rear disc brake option, but have to say this is the first time I've heard the cars referred to as as "100/6 S". Kind of an insult to the 100S, IMHO. Adding a pair of rear discs to a 100/6 isn't quite the same as the body, interior, engine and transmission mods that were made to the 100 to transform it into an S. As Derek said, "marketing".

Yeah, for the last 50 years I think this car was called the MM.

The lights are for illuminating the race number when racing at hight. There is no real evidence these cars were ever called 100-Six 'S'. I think that is folk lore. There is also no evidence that exactly 50 cars were fitted with the brakes for homologation. We have definite evidence that some were, but at the time homologation was not policed very well. We do have evidence that the DHMC called the six port cars the 'MM' as there is an options price list which uses this description.
