Just a guess, but I think it is a reference to the SNARK missile, an ICBM deployed by Strategic Air Command in the late 50s. It was the same vintage more or less as the MGA. The engine's air intake was of a similar shape as the modified MGA's new snout. Here is a photo of the missile:

Crikey - looks like a Hoover with a bib!

And a Capri V6 is pretty darned old technology compared to the newer GM V6s commonly used for that sort of thing.

Fugly forlorn thing - hope someone buys it and does plastic surgery on it!
