I was just on the phone with TRF to see if they have the gas tank cover that goes in the trunk, they don't sell one. I see Moss has it 645-200. Has anybody purchased one form Moss, and how original was it? Is this something I can make myself? My car did not come with one. What's it made of? It should be painted body color. Does anybody have any pictures on how it's mounted?

I bought that panel from Moss. It fit fine. It's some kind of fiberboard with a black textured finish. It's just screwed in place with about six domed sheet metal screws and countersunk washers. AT least that's what I used f to fasten it in place. If you look up top there are some sheet metal tabs with holes in them from the screws, and along the bottom there's more sheet metal brackets with holes in them. Or in your case, I think the earlier cars had one long tab sticking up. I wouldn't try to get use these hole over again. It'll be easier to put the panel in place, know where the tabs are, then then just drill new holes.

Here's a link to a picture of the type of screw and washer I used.

It's a kind of press board. I used some hard board, made my own template off of my old rotten on and then used card board to fabricate the pattern until it fit well. Then cut it out of the hard board and covered it with vinyl it looks good.

The "cover" was different on earlier cars, covered in vinyl to match the interior. TRF sells the board, but you have to cover it yourself. Their P/N (for TR2 and TR3 up to TS22013 is 800596. It shows as available in their parts database, and I got one from them a couple of years ago. But it probably makes more sense to cut your own from a more water-resistant material.

Thanks for the mounting information, and the picture.

Bill Piggott say the cover should be a Vynide-covered millboard finished the same as the body color. I'll have fun finding that material in Winchester Blue.

TRA says the cover should be pebble grained as does Bill Piggott, but it should be sprayed to match body color up to comm# 22014, and then they were all black.

I purchased the fiberboard panel from Moss a few years ago and needed to do quite a bit of trimming (by trial and error) where it fits around the wheel well.

I am putting this in a couple of places. I need a template for the trunk (boot) back panel that hides the gas tank. If someone could respond and provide me with one, I would be extremely grateful. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
