1955 Hillman Husky front end info needed.

Hi,

I was wondering/hoping that someone might have a bit of information on what front suspension or brake components might be used on an early (1955) Hillman Husky to better the situation.

Can the brakes (discs or drum) from another make or model be adapted to fit the Husky. Maybe different drums fitted that have four (rather than the stock three) lugs? Softer springs from another/smaller car to help with the ride quality?

That kind of info.

A friend has already re-worked the frame rails and floors for strength and a better configuration. He also installed a nice Dana (Mail Jeep) rear end for better brakes and gearing, which turned out to be a simple, straight bolt-in task. Now it's time to do something nice up front to improve both the ride quality and safety for use in modern traffic on modern roads.

Any help or tips or even rumors would be a very big help.

Thanks !

TC

I have a later Husky-a 1962- and have learned that a Sunbeam Alpine front cross member can be easily fitted to mine as it is a bolt on swap-not sure if that will work for yours. That will give you front disc brakes, 4 bolt wheels, better suspension and easier parts availability too.
There are some Rootes owners up your way that can help with parts. I have a lot of spares too but a front crossmember would cost $$$$$$$$ to ship. Eric

That's a great tip ! !

I never thought to replace the entire suspension assembly and cross member as a unit, I thought that I'd have to work with different spindles and have them machined to fit the Hillman link/king pin set-up.

Thanks for setting me on the right path. Time to begin the search for some Sumbeam stuff.

If you stumble onto a source here in New England, please post, would you?

Best,

TC
