TR2/3/3A 1954 TR-2 O.D. Wiring

I have two O.D. harnesses for my 1954 TR-2.

#1 Has two wires, they are Yellow and Yellow/Green

#2 has four wires, they are Yellow/purple, Yellow/Green,White and Brown.

The Yellow/Green is duplicated in both harnesses.

RELAY- C-1 connects to Amp Meter-Brown
C-2 connects to O.D. Solenoid -Yellow/Purple
W-2 Connects to O.D. Switch -Yellow/Green
W-1 connects to starter solenoid or Fuse A3 -White

O.D. switch connects to Isolation switch - Yellow

Do these look correct? I am confused with the fact that both harness have a Yellow/Green wire? Does it matter which one you use? I plan on connecting the White wire to the starter solenoid as i read this should not be a fused connection?

Thanks, Dick

Sounds like one is more complete than the other follow the wiring diagram and see what is extra. I would like to be more helpful, but my OD is not tested yet. I have been working on my truck, but should get back to the tr3 soon. There will always be a polarity to follow, but I do remember the switches on the trans confused me. I would think you want the fuse; I put one in line. There should be more OD wiring stuff in the “way back machine” of the forum. Type it in the search box and see what you get.

You need them both— check the wiring diagram. Jim

I added 2 new fuses for my OD supply. 1 is for the solenoid side which helped me discover that the pull in coil was staying energized as it blew a 10 amp fuse. The other protects the OD relay coil plus my USB supply and heater.
Where did you get the OD harness?
Looking at the wiring diagram done by Auto wire you can see the
White wire goes to W1 on the OD relay.
Brown/White goes to C1 on the OD relay.
Yellow /Green goes to W2 on the OD relay.
Yellow/Purple goes to C2 on the OD relay

Yellow/Purple continues to the OD solenoid.
Yellow goes to the Transmission interlock via the dash OD engage switch. The Yellow/Green from W2 goes to the other side of the dash OD engage switch.

I did a bit of my own thing with the wiring on the OD.
Hope this is not too confusing.

Thanks David,

Did you just add inline fuses?

Not in line. I did a small fuse block and relay. The relay is for the heater and USB. That way I do not forget to turn the heater off.

I got the harness from Moss. Looks like I have all the right connections, according to your message. Question about the fuses.I assume you made the fuse connection on the Yellow/purple line between C2 and the solenoid. Where was your second fuse connection? between the brown or the white wires?

My fuses are before the OD Relay. The white wire goes to W1 and has the 5 amp fuse. The brown wire goes to C1 and has the 10 amp fuse. That was the fuse that was blowing and made me realize that my OD solenoid was nor working correctly. The pull in coil should switch off and the holding coil takes over. The pull in coil takes a lot more power and will damage the solenoid if it stays energized too long. There is an internal switch that does the change over.
Using an Amp clamp meter I could see it was not doing its job. I managed to fix the internal switch. I got a new solenoid just to be sure.

I ordered a inline fuse pack and will fuse the white and brown wires. I never use a heater here in Orlando, so will probably skip this fuse.

Thanks for you help. Dick
