A friend sent me this. I've never even heard of it. I wonder what became of it? I doubt it ever saw production, or I think I'd at least have heard of it...

The movie's about 11 minutes, but worth the watch.

Now I don't feel so bad, Don.

There was a machine kind of like that at the house of the border crossing near Sherwood North Dakota Hwy 28? It was bigger than that and the rollers were made of a galvanized tubes you could see rust running down the sides were the lugs were attached with carriage bolts. It had a canvas sided cab and thee was a small airstream trailer on a sled affair towed behind it. And yes it had the US Border Patrol markings on the trailer. Never saw it move but it was there for years saw it in the late 70’ s

Chris,

That was still sitting around up there as late as the late 80's-early 90's too. I don't know if it still is. I haven't been to Sherwood for more than 10 years. I think it was baised on a John Deere "R" or old style (30's) "G" Tractor.
Talk about some of the things you find up here. A few years ago they found a one of a kind herse parked in the garage of a retired undertaker in one of the former towns up near sherwood. All polished up and ready to go to work. I'm trying to remember, but I seem to remember it was a 39-40 Ford, Mercury or Lincoln and the only one ever made. The guy bought it new. It only had something like 7000 miles on it when it was found.

It is weird what you find. A family friend bought the town of Russel and most of Kickapoo township we went exploring thru some of the buildings we found a pile of 30 brand new Dunlop white rubber tires paper still wrapped around them. not pneumatic HARD rubber tires Model T? . Also found the drugstore was all in the bank! The lunch counter the stools the shelves the sales counter every thing but the consumables. Even the decorative tin ceiling was all disassembled and piled up with sheets of butcher paper between each stamped panel.. so weird. The drug store was reinforced with cables thru the walls and filled with flax seed home made grain bin.

Russia actually made an enclosed military vehicle like that and it would crawl over just about anything. It was great in snow or mud and could crawl over downed trees as if they weren't even there. Here's a quick look. The third one down is a unique carrier for a screw drive.

I can't even imagine the trouble I could get into (and, apparently, out of) with the Russian screw drive rig. Mwahahahahaha!

I took these two photos in Fairbanks Alaska's Pioneer Park in August of 2008. The machinery is at least quite similar...

Somewhere there's a video of an old Chevy car, I think in the twenties, with this drive under it. I saw it, but can't remember where, which isn't that unusual.
