17" Rims on a TR6?

I am looking at a wheel upgrade in the near future, and like the look of the Panasport/RB series wheels. And although I have seen a number of TR6's on 16x7 rims, I was wondering whether anyone had used 17" rims on a TR6.

I currently have 15x205/50's on the car (mostly since they work so well when autoxing), but the wheels definitely look too small: if I keep to a 50 or 55 profile, which does look good in a strange way, I will need to go to 17" rims to get close to the original diameter.

The guy to ask is Paul (Brosky) He and I have the same 16" Konigs but he did a lot of research and did consider 17" at one time.

Here's my 250 with the Konigs and Falcon 205/60R16.

Guys - aren't 17s going to present rubbing issues if the car is also lowered?

I'd also recommend making sure you a-arm fulcrum mounts and differential mounts are reinforced if you go this route and plan to drive hard, those tires will generate a lot more grip than the car was designed for and you will tear things.

I'm not saying don't do it, it's your car, just be aware of these potential issues.

Similar to Frank's...

Konigs 16X7's with 205/60 Yoko Avid TRZ.

Re: 17" Rims on a TR6?

I'm not sure if I see any problems with the 17" wheels in terms of rubbing ... if the tires are kept at 215/50 or so, and the offset is zero, then the rolling diameter/width is close to the 15" wheel with 205/70 tires. Also, the larger wheel will clear the front A-arms comfortably! Plus, it will allow a larger brake than the 284mm current maximum ...

YES!!! I believe that 16" is the limit without modifications.

Re: 17" Rims on a TR6?

I DO really like the look of the minilite-type wheels on the TR6, and your care really does look great, and the spoke really sets things off well.

I am looking at black or gunmetal for the spokes when I get that far!

Re: 17" Rims on a TR6?

That's quite a car! I have a 94 C4 Corvette with an LT1 so I know what power that engine can produce! With that much power, his TR6 must be a blast! The photo (and the notes) seem to indicate that he initially used Mustang 15" rims (which are 4.5" PCD) ... I wonder if he has a later photo with 17" rims?

Re: 17" Rims on a TR6?

at,

that photo is the 17 inch rims. If you look down the bottom he lists the 17 inch rims in the more recent changes to the car.

I might have a photo of the original mustang rims that he had on the car. I will check my photo files to see if I can dig one up.

I'll agree with you on that AT, IF the rolling diameter is the same or very close and the width is kept to 215 or 205 there shouldn't be any other sort of rubbing issue than there would be with any other wheel tire combo. Especially when you look at it as rolling diameter vs rolling diameter and comparable widths.

I just found these on the local Craigslist in my daily (or is it hourly?) Triumph Car Parts search:

Panasport 17"

Re: 17" Rims on a TR6?

Ah, so it would appear. What about the wheel would make it "for racing purposes only"? Wouldn't a racing wheel have higher tolerances than a regular wheel? I'm pleading ignorant here.
