$17,601 and 52 bids

Holy Cow! If this keeps up Screamin' Mimi might hit the market. Heck I'd shovel some dirt on it for free.
Or, I could put on some decals/stickers.

Seriously...these prices are surreal.
:cool-new:

The ad if you read the detail sure sounds like snake oil. Yes it looks nice and has been well prepared and detailed. And coming from a dealer this would be a $12-14kk BE if purchased from Private Owner.

Over 17K for a dirty, well worn Bugeye? This tells me one thing: I gotta start putting some of my old crap on eBay!

Gee I have a Bugeye shell that's way uglier than that one...

I think we will see this re-listed. Maybe some uninformed parties got caught up in a bidding frenzy, but I find it hard to believe a car in that condition would legitimately bring that kind of money.

That one failed to sell about a week or so ago (for $25,000) as the reserve wasn't met. Can't imagine it will go again.

So that's the trick... post it with a high reserve, then re-list it with a low reserve so people think they're getting a deal?

Yep... its really original with a red painted engine in it. I have a RUST FREE original bugeye in my shop (alibet totally apart) but I do have all the original parts PLUS I have about 80% of the new parts it will take to restore it. I will even throw in the less than 400 mile rebuilt 1275 and datsun 5 speed for the same price as the idoits paid for that car. Any takers?? My bonnet is about 5 times as nice as the one on that car. Step right up gentlemen.. Dont trample ech other. It will cost about 15 to 25 K depending on how "original" you want to do the restoration and Bugeye prices are no where near that platea yet. For those of you who knew/ know of my car, it has went across the pond to its new owner. As nice as it was and I did get a premium price for it but I wasnt near into it for what the bidder will be when he is done. Compare it to https://www.flickr.com/photos/speichinger tpee where it has to go to if they want originality, what a looonnngggg path to gp.

That is very nice, Leo!! Very nice!

The barn find will probably be back. I sold my MGA to north america only and someone from France won it at the last second. Supposedly couldn't use pay pal but had mediary in the US that would finish the deal. I no sale'd the car and made a deal with the second highest bidder.

Maybe all this "barn-find" stuff comes with the actual barn... and entire farm. :friendly_wink:

I'm left wondering IF I screw my car up, age it a bit, is it more valuable than its currently restored condition? I've got a LOT of dirt I could employ.

I didn't read the GRM article but my take is: There are more restored than in original conditon. A car is only original once but can be restored countless times. It all makes sense, things on Antique Road Show always bring more in untouched condition because that's the rarer condition. I prefer patina over a restoration. I want to see where it's been and for it to tell me it's story. Maybe that's just the "artist" in my talking....whatever that is or means.... Well worn is just right.

I kinda agree with Kellys Guy. Seem's I always gravitate towards the unrestored ratty original at car show's and love to here it's story. Still I wish I had bought a genuine "barn find" a few years ago and could list it now complete with the pig dust that was on it!

The one auction just ended... $27,099 and didn't meet reserve!!! Whoa. I wonder if the seller was just trying to establish a price he could further market. It stalled at $25K just a week or two ago. https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/195...3512462?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4ac473f08e Nuts are bolt restoration is fine, but one doesn't often get to recover all that. I'm just impressed that others drove it up that high on eBay.
