Everything thing I have read states that the transmission in a 1500 MG Midget is derived from the transmission from a Morris Marina. I don't know what a Morris Marina is but I would bet that the transmission isn't the same as the one in a Triumph Spitfire.

It is the same transmission as the non-overdrive spitfires. It is a single rail 4sp full synchro box. The later ones have a front oil seal while the earlier ones only had a scroll seal in front. Later ones have stronger reverse idlers and uprated laygears. I don't remember where I got the attached picture but it came with a bunch more I can send you that were helpful when I was rebuilding my gearbox.

The trans in question is often referred to as a "Marina trans" because it was used in some versions of that car. The ~MARINA~ was a small, RWD Brit sedan sold under the Austin and Morris name (briefly sold as "Austins" in the USA). The US versions had MGB engines, I think.
But as JC has said, it's a Spitfire trans (OK, "gearbox").

By the way, although the 1500 trans works nicely and has all-syncro, it uses a cast iron bell housing, which makes it *real* heavy.

Good catch Nial. I thought it was the Rimmer Brothers site but couldn't find it as I was posting. You are right, that transmission is pretty heavy. Interesting thought on the bell housing Jeff. Might have to do a little research into that one. If I ever decide I need to shed about 30 pounds.
