OK, I admit it, I'm stumped. I have put the timing chain cover back on and am not quite sure how the alternator etc attaches. Some I didn't take off myself and some I didn't socument clearly.

Here is where the pics are - any or all help would be greatly appreciated.

The two brackets are for the air pump. I removed mine ages ago, so I can't help tell you how it goes back together. The long bolt and spacers go, I believe, to the alternator (or possibly the air pump). The hole in the block below the dizzy is where your oil pressure light mounts. The other hole is plugged with a bolt and copper washer. The water pipe can be easily installed with the pump assembly mounted in the car. I usually set the exhaust manifold on it's studs, then install the pipe. The mounting tab on the back goes on the rear exhaust manifold stud.
 
Hello JP,

the alternator goes on the boss above and to the right of the timingg chain cover, with a large spacer. The alternator support strap bolt to the top right water pump mounting bolt after the pump is installed, of course.

Are you putting in a rebuild, or the original, or? Running any extra electric devices? There's a pretty common swap that allows the use of a newer, more efficient, higher-output and less expensive alternator. I'll find the page detailing the swap, if you're interested.

The navigation isn't completely obvious - just click the BLUE links at the top of the page, to see the various pages. NB - pictures of the swap cover various models, but the Spitfire 1500 is obviously interchangable with your 1500. This is what I plan to do, if & when my alternator dies.
 
Thanks Duncan - what then goes in hole A?

& No, no plans to "up" the alternator - if it dies maybe but there is no indication it does anything but work fine now and I have no plans to add current sucking items.

Part of my challenge is actually finishing - the chrome bumper conversion is the biggest concern (and getting the body straight again.) tragically for me there are too many "add ons" that are soooo enticing - wire rims/ red interior/ 5 speed - all of which seem to add $1000 and 6 months to the project each time. Though a five speed continues to entice.
 
Hole A... Oh, I'll have to go out and look... I seem to remember that it's a big thick metal cable, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is!
 
Hole A is just a nut. Hole E is where the long bolt for the alternator goes. Holes C and D are where you would mount the air pump stuff. I have nuts and bolts in those holes as I have deleted the air pump.
 
I think all that stuff is for the air pump. Are there spacers pressed into the bottom mounting bracket on your alternator? If so, then the spacers in your pic probably go to the pump, too.
 
Bracket one i think goes on the passenger side and bolts to the block. and under the motor mount. not quite sure why...
