1500 flywheel

Well, my flywheel on my midget 1500 might be going, though I'm not sure. How does one check it? How hard is it to replace? Where can I find one since MO$$ doesnt carry it? Thanks as always. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
 
hmmm, flywheels rarely wear out. ring gears get worn and are replaceable. Flywheels can be checked for runout (with a dial indicator) and balance by an engine shop. i suppose they also could be magnafluxed to check for cracks. also while you have it in hand it is a good idea to have a machine shop dress the face off to remove any glazing or hot spots

Replacement requires removal of the engine, separating the tranny and removing the clutch assembly, to access the flywheel that is bolted to the end of the crank.

what makes you say your flywheel is going?

number 46 is the ring gear for a 1500
 
I pulled my starter and it looks like some of the teeth on it are more worn than they should be for a hardly used, starter purchased in October and only started a few times a week.
 
perhaps you need to shim the starter? if i recall mine had a brass shim in it? normally, at least in my meager experience, if your ring gear is going south, the starter may not engage all the time, usually if you have to be some where it wont engage at all, but if you arent in any hurry it will engage all the time....
