1500 Clutch

The pin for the release lever on my clutch isn't there. When I pulled the transmission away from the engine, the lever pretty much fell into the bell housing. I'm not sure if the bushings are in the bellhousing or not. Question is, can I replace that pin with a shoulder bolt that I could capture a little more securely? Secondly, I really don't see a pilot bearing in the flywheel. There has to be one right? Must have become one with the flywheel. Thirdly, and most importantly...Tony...what comes in a clutch kit from Moss? Looks like I'll be making a huge order in a couple of weeks, engine and transmission rebuild.

You could probably use a correctly sized shoulder bolt instead of a pin...just be sure that the bushing it runs in hasn't fallen out.
The pilot bushing is in the end of the crank...not the flywheel. Generally, I think it's best to pull the flywheel to change it. The 1275 is similar.
Not sure what comes with the 1500 clutch kit. I just looked in the Moss catalog and it's unclear.
By the way, my '78 racer is still running all the original stock clutch stuff except the disk (which I only swapped out last year).
 
I have one sitting on my shop floor ... I know the clutch kit comes with a pressure plate and disk, but I don't remember if anything else comes along ...

Nial, which disk did you change it out for? I've got a <2000 mile used clutch in mine now, and the spare sitting around, but it seems to grip excellently, even with the increased power output.
 
If I recall, the pressure plate + disk was a bit more expensive, but the disks themselves were inexpensive. The first time around, I had the flywheel cut .010" and re-used the pressure plate. It's been fine for 2000 miles or so, and I hope to get a bunch more this year (I think I finally got approved for antique insurance ... yay!). I let it lapse and just did something about it this weekend.
