i have a 61 nash metropolitan this car was made in england at longbridge...the engine is a 1500cc, which has an idiot lite instead of a voltmeter...my question is how do i wire a voltmeter to the generator...thanks, dale

super simple. You can pretty much wire it into any switched power source. The Cig lighter is a good source to splice into. Also they do make volt meters that plug into the cig lighter. Is the car positive or neg. ground?

thanks for the repy!...the car is neg ground....i'm assuming i go w/ the pos lead to the cigar lighter and the neg to ground....the pos side is goes on the left side of the voltmeter?...thanks again, dale...(i'm trying to install a permanent voltmeter gauge under the dash...going to the cig lighter would have the gauge on all of the time??

If the lighter is switched then yes otherwise find another wire that is switched at tap into that. The guage should have color coded wires so its hard to say which side will be pos or neg.
