MGB 15" Minilites for a MGB

Re: 15" Minilites for a MGB

Good looking GT. Welcome.

Re: 15" Minilites for a MGB

I run 15" Superlights on my GT with 195/60/15 Sumitomo HTR200 tires. I love them, but I had to replace the rear spring bushings with poly to stop them from rubbing.

You know that you guys aren't making this easy (to resist gettin' me some minilite love), don't you?

Re: 15" Minilites for a MGB

I know I am pissing into the wind here, but they are NOT Minilites, any more than those plastic bodied VW powered cars are real MG TDs. They are replicas of the real thing.

Re: 15" Minilites for a MGB

I have 15"x6" Superlites on my lowered '76. Tire size is 185x65x15. Poly suspension. No rubbing. My only complaint is that the center-caps are cheesy plastic.

Re: 15" Minilites for a MGB

I have Hap's wheels and they are great. They are the 14 inch and give a very nice ride with the taller side wall.

You are pissing uphill into a hurricane - but that doesn't mean incorrect! Yes, I did mean minilite-style, or minilite-replicas. The 'real' magnesium ones are apparently all old and brittle these days!

Re: 15" Minilites for a MGB

Now seems like a good time to announce this here, I've been chosen by the US Distributor of Superlite to represent the Superlite brand in East, right now we have plans to have product displays at the Walter Mitty Vintage races at Road Atlanta, the Euro Auto Festival at BMW in Greer, SC and possibly MG2008 in Valley Forge, PA.

As far as who in invented the classic 8 spoke design, who knows, it been made for over 40+ years by alot of different companies, but I'll put Superlite's quality and cosmetics up against any of the other classic 8 spoke designs, and for what you get for the price it's hard to beat them. Superlite has also just been named the offical wheel of Classic Motorsports' project cars.

When Barry (Pack Racing) first got into the Superlite business, he drafted me to sell wheels, at the time I had my doubts, I was moving away from parts in my business and trying to concentrate more on engines, and carbs, but he made me a deal too good to refuse. In the first two years, I was lucky if we had the stock for 1 out of 3 orders, but now we have triple our stock, got CNC drilling equipment in order to drill bolt circles for odd bolt patterns, increased our public awareness thru the media, and it has all paid off, as we are starting to see a real share of the market, we ask Australia to develop new products, like the spline drive wheels, and the GTR race wheels, and they listened, we even played a part in the R&D of those wheels. Over the past couple of years, many of you all have chosen Superlites as your choice for a classic design wheel, and we appreciate your business, and because of your support have expanded our stock, our product line, and awareness. Thanks you!

Re: 15" Minilites for a MGB

Ok, I USED TO have a set of the Minataurs from the MGOC, as Moss sells, in the knock-off variety, but due to weight issues (extremely heavy) I opted to switch to bolt-ons. The set I have now came from Hap and the quality is exceptional! They're MUCH lighter and appear to be exceptionally made. They fit great with 205/50ZR15 tires and a panhard bar. I'd probably have to cut back to 195s without the panhard, 185s without the poly bushings. When comparing these Superlites to the Minataurs, I'd say hands down they're a superior product, plus the shipping is cheap compared to what Moss or MGOC charge!!!

In my opinion, im liking the Charcoal Superlites from Hap... Just throwing that out there.

Hap, when will you have the 15" spline type for a MGC????

We waiting on the spline adapters, in the first round we had a few duds, meaning some of the adapters didn't fit the splined hubs, we test fitted each spline adapter before using it on a wheel, all the spline wheels are CNC drilled and assembled here in the US. Then Performance Wheels of Austraila (Superlite) decided to buy the original tooling for the spline hubs, that's where we got into trouble, there is or was a law in Austraila that any import car sold there had/has to have 30% of it parts made in Austraila, well guess what Performance Wheel got their original tooling for the spline hubs, you got it in Australia, where they just happen to be a little bit different than the rest of the world's splines, so now Perforamnce is buying some original tooling for the spline hubs from the UK, to make a second set of spline adapter for the US and the rest of world hubs. This has cost us to run out of stock of the Spline wheels adapter for our market (North America), we should be back up and running with the spline wheels by summer. As far as I know, maybe I'm wrong the splines on the hubs and wheels for our cars are all the same until you get up to Jag, Rolls, the big cars, meaning the hub splines are the same for a Midget, MGB, Healey, MGA, MGC etc..
Hopefully that answers your question.

Hap, there are only 2 main spline patterns used in British cars, the smaller 42 mm (Sunbeam, MG, Triumph, Aston Martin, AC Cobra as well as my Lamborghini) and 52 mm (Jaguar).

If the Aussies had different spline pitch I'll bet it was something they produced as a flaw in creating the original machinery.

I have seen brand new Indian Dunlop bits that have the ends of the furrows in the splines very slightly narrower - just enough that they won't go on a new hub but will on a worn hub. I wonder if that was what you were seeing - did you try the spline adaptor on an old hub?

Re: 15" Minilites for a MGB

I wish superlite made a 5.5 X 15... I have the 6 X 15 and I am working my way through the rear wheel rub senario.. If they had a 5.5 width, it might be a better 'road' fit ?

Re: 15" Minilites for a MGB

I got these 15 inchers from Hap and am running Dunlop HR4's 195/60, poly bushings and GT springs. Front end it shot but she handles very nicely.
