Just saw this article in the local paper...Huntsville, AL is number 14 with unemployment of 2.5% & mean annual wages of $39,540. The on-line version doesn't list all 15 cities, but they are (in descending order):

Fargo, ND
Bismarck, ND
Logan, UT
St George, UT
Ames, IA
Idaho Falls, ID
Billings, MT
Charlottesville, VA
Iowa City, IA
Provo-Orem, UT
Sioux City, SD
Boise City-Nampa, ID

dang! Ft Walton Bch/Crestview/Destin is in the top 15?!? Man! Maybe it's time to move back home! Even if I make the same as I do now, living there would be SOOOOoooo much easier...

Quite a few from my adopted home state (Utah). Low unemployment here, but also generally low wages. Used to be that cost of living was low too, but that is rising, as is the cost of housing.
 
I tried to find the original but could not.

I wonder if there's some type of systematic bias in their analysis- 12 of the 15 come from the high plains and mountain states (the Dakotas, Iowa, Nebraska, Utah and Idaho).

I rather doubt that this news will inspire many unemployed to pack their bags and head for Billings, particularly at this time of the year.... (with no slight to Billings intended!)
 
You're right about the mean annual wages...Huntsville was the highest on the list & the lowest was St. George, UT.
 
Charlottesville was also voted the #1 City in America by "Cities Ranked & Rated" last year. I've lived here since '89, it's a great place to be.

The university (UVA) brings a lot to the community. Lots of great sports venues, ACC sports, etc. And if you like U.S. history, you're in heaven here. Low crime, traffic is relatively good, good schools, etc., etc.

The only way I'd leave is if I won the lottery, it's that great. But, don't tell anyone . . .
 
Of course being qualified for those jobs, or just being lucky enough to have a good one fall in your lap that offers good pay, and training - is the key.

kenny,yes luck plays a role, but dont sell youself short, willingness and aptitude on your part sure did help, i can see your becoming wiser and more handsome with every pay check, ya didnt really buy that big wooden sail boat did ya?
