Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

I like the sound of the Stainless Steel Dual Sport System from Moss is nice and full. Louder than stok but not as loud as Monzas

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

I put the Ansa system on. I think it is as loud as the Monza system. Both are too loud for long drives,

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

Allan,
I'm wondering about this myself. You mentioned Flowmaster. A lot of people say their mufflers are too loud. Did you use one of their older styles or did you try their Hush Power II? They claim this one is more mellow. I have a dynomax system on my Jimmy. There is too much resonance in the cab for my taste.
I'm considering having a system made using a resonator toward the front of the system and a Magnaflow muffler at the rear. One of my sons has a Civic. We replaced the stock muffler with a Magnaflow. It sounds pretty good, not raspy, a lot like an MGB. We left the stock resonator in place up near the cat. I read that removing the resonator is the reason so many rice burners have that obnoxious raspy sound.

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

fwiw - I have a Moss 6/3/2 on a 73 going into a stock stainless muffler. I like the way it sounds much better than what was on there (Monza/Stock manifold). Quiet enough to tool around in, but a little noise when you prod the loud pedal.

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

I've got a hybred stainless Sport system with dual Borla mufflers. My neighbors hate my car, but I think it sounds better than the sport mufflers, which I'll sell to you for a great price if you want them.

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

I would try to make it sound like a Healey! Loved to hear a 3000 in a tunnel. If not that, then side pipes with dual 36" glass packs or a muffler eliminator with a stock exhuast.

I run a stock muffler. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I also know alot about W. Mitty.

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

Dual stainless Falcon Sport Exhaust with custom 2 1/2 x 8" oval 10" deep resonators from Stainless Specialties. It barks!

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

Stock muffler all the way!

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

I've got a single glasspack on mine. The system is finished off with chrome tip that seems to have some sort of baffels inside it.
The car is loud, but it sounds too cool to consider changing it. When it goes bad I figure I'll take it to an exhaust shop and re-create the same system again.

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

Have the Falcon SS replacement exhaust. I like the fact that it has a nice bark when you get on it and not overbearing on long trips at 65mph.

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

I'll add my vote for the stock system, sounds great, and I would guess it isn't too restrictive since as far as I know its the same as the system used on the more powerful fuel injected versions.
Simon.

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

I have falcon SS. In their stock form they are too loud for extended trips and I felt horribly self concious driveing in the country polluting the country peace and quiet with my rattle can. They are too short out the back and the back draft sucks up exhaust fumes into the cockpit and really turns off my wife. I put 6-8 inch extentions on and made a completel new system out of it. Very mellow and no smell.

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

Seems like the stocks have it, now for the other side of the story. I used a TR4 "Y" pipe and had it bent to fit under the TR6, (single pipe, only the "Y" pipes had to be bent down about 2 inches) then added the stock TR4 Mufflers and you would not beleive the deep tone and not loud at all. Now it rev's so much better and I can still hear the radio and it's not a big thumper. I sure do appreciate the old time rock and roll stations. Wayne

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

allan, i have the dual stainless sport system from rimmer bros. like the ad says, it will make a nissan owner envious, it seems to do just fine. allen

Re: Best sounding exhaust or muffler-TR6??

Another problem with nonstock systems are the mounting points. I had to drill holes in the bottom of my trunk and use some angle iron brackets to mount the mufflers, use a jack to tweek them inplace and they still drag.
