Why spend the money on the ignition system when it doesn't need it?
Your problem description is fuel supply. Like the others have suggested, 1st check for leak from the bottom of the carb, if no leak drop the float cover to check for grit. If it is leaking, fix the leak. Then replace the filter(s) how many do you have anyway? A filter does provide some flow restriction.
After you've done those checks/repairs, check the fuel feed lines from the bottom of the tank, be very sure that any bends are gradual curves. Then drive it again.
If it does a Pedro flatulence, take your hand reach behind you and pop open the gas cap. See if that clears up the problem within a block or two.
Wonder what the fuel was that you put in it last fill up, possible contamination, possible water?
